Tables are used in websites for things like displaying rates, weekly schedules and more. Adding a table in Cascade with UMKC formatting requires a few steps but the result is a clean and clear table containing your important information.
1.) Leave your cursor in the text block where you want your table to appear. Find the drop-down labeled 'Table' in the top left corner of the WYSIWYG, and open. Navigate to the option labeled 'Table' then select the size of the table you'd like to add.
Please Note: if your table will be larger than 10x10, you will have the option to add more columns and rows. Simply select the 10x10 option and follow the next several instructions to add more columns and/or rows.
- 2.) Once you have selected the number of cells for your table, the table will appear in the text block. You can use the squares on each corner of the table to stretch the table out a bit to give yourself some space to work.
- 3.) Next, you will apply the UMKC formatting to this table. Skipping this step will result in a table with no defined cells, so these steps are very important!
This is an example of a table that has not been properly formatted. See step 11 for an example of a properly formatted table.
- 4.) Using your cursor, select the far-left side of the table to 'select all'. When this is done properly, all of the cells will simultaneously have a blue selection inside.
- 5.) Next, with the table selected, navigate to the 'Format' drop-down in the top left corner of the WYSIWYG. Navigate down to 'Formats', then 'Custom'. Find and select the option labeled 'umkc-table'.
Now your table is formatted properly, and will appear as intended on your site. Please Note: the formatting will not appear in the editing window after it is applied. To see the change, you will need to 'Preview Draft' after you have filled in your table with its content.
- 6.) Fill in your table.
- 7.) To add header styling to some of your cells, right-click within your chosen cell. A menu will appear, and you will find the 'Cell' option. You'll then select the option labeled 'Cell Properties'.
- 8.) Find the option labeled 'Cell type' in the Cell properties editing window. Open the drop-down, and select 'Header cell', then select 'Ok'. Your selected cell will now appear with header formatting.
- 9.) ALL UMKC website tables require a caption for accessibility purposes. To add a caption, select anywhere on the table, then find the 'Table Properties' option on the icon menu that appears.
- 10.) Find the option labeled 'Caption' and select, then select 'Ok'.
- 11.) Drop your cursor into the newly appeared caption box at the top of your table, then give the table a title and/or brief description if needed.
- 12.) 'Preview Draft' to see your table in full formatting.
