Blocks

Within the Asset Factories, UMKC MCOM has created some blocks to be able to make editing and site maintenance easier.

Site Specific Blocks

These blocks should be created inside of the _blocks folder and should not be renamed, otherwise they will not override the default behaviors. This list is in order of the most important to modify and is capped by items that should only be modified if absolutely necessary.

  • Site Announcement: Add to your site when you need to create a site-wide announcement. Publishing is required when using this item. You may selectively publish which pages the announcement will be listed. All pages within your site are affected and this is shown under the hero image before the page's main content starts. Do not rename this block when created.
  • Site Footer: Add this to your site to customize your address, site name, socials and customize links to your footer area. This is an infrequently visited area, but does help customize your website. Generally this is a "set it and forget it" block. Do not rename this block when created.
  • Top Navigation: Overrides the default behavior of the navigation system. Allows the content editor to customize the navigation system in the top bar for all pages. Edit as needed when content needs change. Do not rename this block when created.
  • Mobile Menu: Overrides the mobile buttons. Should not be edited unless needed.
  • Footer CTA: Overrides the CTA buttons over the KC Skyline footer image. Should not be edited unless needed.

Content Blocks

These blocks can be used to create new functionality without needing to know how to code. Generally they are used in conjunction with Shortcodes.

  • Accordion: used for accordion rows or shortcode to create content that is scannable, but does not need consumed at the same time.
  • Directory Block: used to create a directory layout for Content Rows. This should be used instead of
  • Image Gallery: block is created to allow for an image gallery (slider) or a 5 image gallery layout
  • Org Chart: block creates a nested layer of hierarchy to allow for a vertical organizational chart to be listed.
  • Storytelling: Takes an image, text and link to make a storytelling type row for landing pages.
