Troubleshooting Profiles and Directories

Modified on Fri, 26 Jun at 12:09 PM

This article covers the most common issues encountered when managing Person Profiles and Directory Pages in the UMKC Global Framework.

My profile doesn’t appear in a directory.

Possible causes

The profile has not been published.

Changes are not visible until the Person Profile has been published.

Solution

Publish the Person Profile.

The directory page has not been published.

If the profile’s organizational information has changed, the directory page must also be published.

Examples include changes to:

  • Profile Type
  • AU/Division/Office(s)
  • Sub-Directory

Solution

Publish the affected Directory page.

The Profile Type does not match.

Directory pages display only the selected Profile Types.

Example:

The directory displays:

  • Faculty

The profile is assigned:

  • Staff

The profile will not appear.

Solution

Verify that the appropriate Profile Type has been selected on the profile.

The AU/Division/Office does not match.

Directory pages search only profiles associated with the selected organizational unit.

Solution

Verify that the profile includes the correct AU/Division/Office assignment.

The Sub-Directory does not match.

Directory Listing Subset values must exactly match the profile’s Sub-Directory.

not match:

  • Biology
  • biology
  • Biology Department
  • (with a trailing space)

Solution

Update either the profile or directory so both values match exactly.

The “Appears in” link is missing.

Appears in section is generated automatically.

Verify the following:

  • The profile contains one or more Sub-Directory values.
  • A matching directory page exists on the current website.
  • The directory page has been published.
  • The profile has been published.
  • The Sub-Directory exactly matches the Directory Listing Subset.

If a matching directory page cannot be found, the Sub-Directory name is displayed as plain text instead of a hyperlink.

A profile appears in the wrong directory.

This usually indicates that one or more organizational fields have been configured incorrectly.

Review:

  • Profile Type
  • AU/Division/Office(s)
  • Sub-Directory

After making corrections, publish both the Person Profile and affected Directory page(s).

Search cannot find a profile.

The directory search only searches profiles currently displayed by that directory.

If the profile does not appear in the directory, it cannot be found using the search.

Verify that the profile matches the directory’s configured criteria.

Profiles are not sorted correctly.

Sort Field.

Verify that:

  • Every profile contains a Sort Field value.
  • Similar profiles use a consistent naming convention (typically the family/last name).

My changes are visible on the profile but not the directory.

This usually means:

  • The Person Profile was published.
  • The Directory page was not.

Republish the affected Directory page.

My changes are visible on the directory but not the profile.

Verify that the Person Profile has been published.

I accidentally created duplicate profiles.

Each individual should have only one Person Profile.

If someone belongs to multiple departments or organizational units:

  • Edit the existing profile.
  • Add additional AU/Division/Office assignments.
  • Add additional Sub-Directories.
  • Do not create another profile.
