Broken links are one of the most common issues reported by DubBot. They occur when a hyperlink, document, image, or other resource can no longer be reached by visitors.
Keeping links current helps ensure visitors can find the information they’re looking for and improves the overall quality of your website.
DubBot reports several types of link-related issues, each requiring a slightly different approach to resolve.
Types of Broken Link Issues
Internal Links
Links pointing to pages or files within your website that can no longer be found.
External Links
Links pointing to websites outside of UMKC that are unavailable or have changed.
Redirects
Links that still function but automatically forward visitors to another address. While not always an error, updating these links is recommended.
Missing Documents
Links to PDFs or other files that have been moved, renamed, or deleted.
Broken Images
Images referenced by a page that are no longer available.
Before You Begin
When reviewing link issues, start with those affecting the largest number of pages. Navigation menus, footers, and shared content blocks often generate many reported issues from a single broken link.
After making corrections, publish the affected page and verify the link works in your browser. DubBot will remove resolved issues after your website’s next scheduled crawl.
