What is DubBot?

DubBot is UMKC’s website quality assurance platform. It continuously scans university websites to identify issues that may impact accessibility, usability, and overall site quality.

While DubBot can report on several types of issues, this documentation focuses on the areas most relevant to website content managers:

  • Accessibility
  • Broken links

Additional checks, such as spelling, SEO, and document quality, may also be available depending on your website.

Accessing DubBot

DubBot uses UMKC Single Sign-On (SSO) authentication.

Access requests should be submitted through a Web Services support ticket. Please include the website URL(s) you manage so the appropriate permissions can be assigned.

Your Dashboard

After signing in, you’ll be presented with your website dashboard.

The dashboard provides an overall quality score for your site along with a summary of issues identified during the most recent scan.

Selecting any issue category displays:

  • The number of issues found
  • The number of affected pages
  • The pages where the issues occur
  • Additional details about each issue

Whenever possible, strive to keep your site’s scores as close to 100 as practical.

Opening Pages in Your CMS

For websites managed in Cascade CMS, DubBot provides a convenient shortcut to the affected page.

From the page details, select Open In → Editor to open the page directly in Cascade and begin making corrections.

Where Should I Start?

The number of reported issues can seem overwhelming, especially for larger websites.

Start by focusing on issues that affect multiple pages. Many accessibility issues originate from shared content, reusable components, or common page layouts. Correcting one issue may resolve dozens—or even hundreds—of reported findings.

After addressing site-wide issues, work through the remaining page-specific issues based on their severity and impact.

Editor vs. Web Services Responsibilities

Most website owners will primarily encounter content-related issues that can be resolved by editing page content.

Examples include:

  • Alternative text
  • Heading structure
  • Link text
  • Broken links
  • Missing page titles

Some issues originate from website templates or custom functionality and require assistance from Web Services.

These may include:

  • Template markup
  • Form accessibility
  • Keyboard navigation
  • ARIA attributes
  • Color contrast within templates
  • Other code-level accessibility issues

If an issue cannot be corrected through the content editor, Web Services will address it as part of the website’s templates or maintenance process.

The following articles explain common DubBot issues and provide step-by-step instructions for resolving those that content editors can address.
